Role Summary
The Head, Investment Research will provide strategic leadership for the firm's research function, driving the development of high-quality macroeconomic, equity, fixed income, and sector research that informs investment decisions across the organization.
The successful candidate will oversee the research agenda, develop actionable investment recommendations, strengthen market intelligence capabilities, and lead a high-performing research team. This role requires exceptional analytical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and deep knowledge of capital markets, economic trends, and investment analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Research Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute the firm's investment research strategy in alignment with business objectives
- Establish research priorities and ensure timely publication of investment reports and market intelligence.
- Provide thought leadership on macroeconomic developments, industry trends, and capital market dynamics.
- Maintain high standards of research quality, analytical rigor, and data integrity.
- Represent the organization at investment forums, conferences, client meetings, and industry engagements.
Macroeconomic & Market Research
- Lead research covering inflation, monetary policy, fiscal policy, exchange rates, interest rates, and economic growth.
- Analyze global and domestic economic developments and assess their implications for investment portfolios.
- Produce market outlook reports, economic updates, and investment strategy publications.
- Identify emerging investment opportunities and market risks.
Equity & Fixed Income Research
- Oversee fundamental research on listed companies, sectors, and investment themes.
- Lead valuation analysis using methodologies such as
- Review and approve investment recommendations, equity research reports, and credit assessments.
- Support portfolio management and trading teams with timely research insights.
Investment Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement
- Present research findings and investment recommendations to executive management, clients, investors, and the Board.
- Partner with Portfolio Managers, Relationship Managers, and Sales teams to deliver research-driven investment solutions.
- Build strong relationships with regulators, policymakers, institutional investors, and market participants.
- Support business development initiatives through market intelligence and client-focused investment insights.
Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of investment research professionals.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, and analytical excellence.
- Implement research standards, quality assurance processes, and performance management frameworks.
- Identify capability gaps and coordinate technical training and professional development initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Master's degree (MBA, MSc Finance, Economics, or related field) is an added advantage.
- CFA Charterholder or progress toward CFA designation is highly preferred.
- Relevant professional certifications in investment management or financial analysis are advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in investment research, asset management, investment banking, or capital markets.
- At least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing research teams.
- Proven experience producing investment research across multiple asset classes.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian and global financial markets.
- Demonstrated experience supporting investment decision-making and portfolio management
