Job Summary
The Head of Laboratory Services provides strategic leadership and oversight for all laboratory operations, ensuring accurate diagnostics, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. The role drives innovation, optimizes workflows, and leads a high‑performing team to deliver efficient, reliable, and patient‑centered laboratory services. This position ensures that laboratory practices align with organizational goals, accreditation standards, and evolving healthcare needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for all laboratory operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and clinical priorities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop laboratory staff to maintain a high‑performing, quality‑driven team.
- Oversee implementation and continuous improvement of quality management systems to meet accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Ensure accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of all diagnostic testing and laboratory outputs.
- Drive innovation by evaluating and adopting new technologies, equipment, and diagnostic methodologies.
- Manage laboratory budgets, resource allocation, and equipment maintenance to optimize operational efficiency.
- Establish and enforce laboratory policies, SOPs, and safety protocols to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
- Collaborate with clinicians, hospital leadership, and external partners to enhance service delivery and support patient‑centered care.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Current practicing license from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
- Postgraduate qualification such as MSc, MPH, MBA, or relevant specialty certification (e.g., Quality Management, Molecular Diagnostics) is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years professional laboratory experience, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Demonstrated experience managing laboratory operations, quality management systems (QMS), and accreditation processes (e.g., ISO 15189).
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic technologies, laboratory equipment, and modern testing methodologies.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and drive operational efficiency.
- Experience working in hospital laboratories, diagnostic centers, or reference labs is an added advantage.
